Environmental Program
We have the opportunity to take care of a piece of this beautiful earth for
a time… to groom it, to love it, to watch the sunrise and sunsets, feel the
rain, the sun, the wind. Our wish is to preserve and share our good fortune.
The palm-lined beach of Playa Esterillos Este is a wide expansive stretch of shell-strewn beach, dramatic ocean and changing skies. Sparsely populated, our guests have a very special place to experience nature on the Pacific coast. A group of endangered scarlet macaws are among our regular visitors, their calls filling the air as they arrive to dine in the large almondre tree by the restaurant. Iguanas, butterflies, lizards and a variety of birds all enjoy Xandari’s exotic plants and fruit.
Preserving the natural environment on this special beach is uppermost in our minds as we work to diminish the impact of our operations and protect the invaluable natural resources of our area. Our Sustainable Tourism Program includes recycling, using organic and biodegradable soaps, shampoos and cleaning products, using a chlorine alternative in our swimming pools, solar lighting our walkways, composting, organic gardening, testing and regularly certifying our tap water to be 100% potable and toxin free, offering healthy food choices, planting native species, drying laundry in the sun when possible, practicing energy and water conservation, and using a wastewater treatment system that uses bacteria to break down waste. We employ local Costa Ricans, search out products and crafts that are made in Costa Rica, encourage environmental education, promote ever-wider recycling efforts, and participate in the greater community around us. We hope that every guest at Xandari by the Pacific will have an inspiring, relaxing and rejuvenating experience, enveloped in the natural beauty that is Costa Rica.
